Getting up early in the morning and trying to get the kids out the door for school, WITHOUT anyone forgetting anything is asking for a miracle!!! Our oldest is now in 2nd grade and it finally feels like we have a pretty good handle on things, so here's how we make it happen!
The Night BEFORE
I don't like to have to roll out of bed any earlier that I absolutely have to, so prepping the night before is essential for a successful morning. On Sundays, we go through the printed school lunch menu, that we stick to the kitchen fridge, and he decides which days he wants to pack vs buy school lunch. (If I am packing his lunch, I will get up a few minutes earlier to give me enough time for this extra step.) We also make sure he has his bookbag together and materials all gathered. I will also help him get his outfit picked out, so he's good to get dressed and ready.
School Morning Routine
Our oldest has gotten into a groove and morning routine, so at this point, all I need to do is prompt him if he starts to deviate. I think this is just do to repetition, every school morning we try to do the same deal. We set our alarms, enjoy 2 minutes of morning snuggles, and then we are OFF.... He will brush teeth, fix hair, and get dressed while I'm doing the same. Then we assemble downstairs to get lunches, make sure he has water bottle etc, one last potty trip, and we are out the door!
TIME SAVER/GAME CHANGER: I actually pack a little travel make-up bag to toss on some cover-up and mascara while we are waiting in the car-rider drop-off line.
